FREDY'S TOMO'S DOLLS

FREDY'S TOMO'S DOLLS

In 1989, FRED launched the Fredy’s, precious, delectable little figurines worn as brooches or pendants. This autumn the family is growing, welcoming some new members: the Fredy’s “Tomo’s Dolls”, three pendant brooches created in collaboration with the artist Tomo Koizumi.

The Little Devil, Lover, Sailor, Angel, Footballer, Golfer or Tennis Player. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, these little characters in yellow gold, lacquer, white pearl and coloured stones inspired the kind of joie de vivre typical of the FRED style. Today Valérie Samuel, Artistic Director and Vice-President of FRED, continues to write this family story and casts her own eyes over this curious tribe. Following the Maison’s tradition of reaching out to artists, she asked Japanese fashion designer Tomo Koizumi to produce his own interpretation of the Fredy’s.

Based in Tokyo and passionate about fashion from adolescence, this young designer, who trained as a costume designer, launched his label in 2011. The extravagant and sculptural but ultra-feminine outlines of his creations were soon noticed and enabled him to dress numerous artists and celebrities. The energy and freshness attitude that Tomo Koizumi injects into his work literally shine through in his three Fredy’s “Tomo’s Dolls”. Each one is dressed in yellow gold with a cultured pearl for a face, recalling Fred Samuel’s love for these marvels of nature. Drawing inspiration from three of the designer’s signature dresses, their outfits turn FRED’s craftsmen-jewelers into virtuoso costume designers: skirts in matt or brilliant gold, solid or with a mesh-like, openwork design, in a variety of asymmetrical shapes and sizes, tops and flounces inlaid with rubies, diamonds and sapphires in pink, violet, yellow, blue or green, red or white lacquer detailing. Radiant jewelry pieces that move and really come alive to the rhythm of female footsteps. "If I had to describe the collection in a few words, I would say: joyous, fun, colourful. These words are at the heart of my own brand and a theme in everything that I design, so of course they describe this collaboration too. I'm very happy that these words also relate perfectly to FRED's brand image."

Named Frou-Frou, Chouchou and Tutu after their clothing, these three delightfully kawaii dolls display the versatility prized by FRED. A new expression of the joie de vivre and creative daring made, as Fred Samuel liked to say, to celebrate life’s big and small moments.
